RED Weekend
June 2 & 3, 2012

EMS Direction – a discussion tool for communities and stakeholders wishing to understand the need for a flexible, coordinated and accountable Rural Emergency Response. The RED doc was first presented to The Honourable Fred Horne, Minister of Health February 21, 2012 and he has been provided with the updated RED doc as well.
Who: Fire, First Responders,Dispatch personnel, EMS personnel, elected officials and community members.
What: A RED (Rural EMS) weekend – a facilitated opportunity to meet with other emergency responders from across the province, learn about other Rural EMS delivery models for dispatch, fire and 1stResponders and help develop a Rural Alberta Strategy.
When: June 2nd – 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and
and June 3rd – 9:00 am – 2:30 pm
Where: Provincial Building in Wainwright, Alberta located at 810 – 14th Avenue Wainwright (North side of Hwy 14 just east of the Golf Course, opposite Wallace Park)
Why: On February 28, 2012, TheHonourable Fred Horne, Minister of Health & Wellness directed the Health Quality Council of Alberta to conduct a Review of operations of emergency medical services in Alberta. The Review shall include but is not
limited to implications for quality and patient safety with respect to: transition issues related to the transfer of governance and funding of ground EMS from municipalities to the former regional health authorities and Alberta Health Services; dispatch consolidation; challenges specific to integrated fire/EMS service providers; challenges specific to rural and remote areas of the province; and availability and adequacy of data on EMS.
In preparation for the Health Quality Council of Alberta Review the Partnership to Support Rural Community First Response is seeking to provide input that would help to develop a Rural Strategy for EMS in Alberta.
